Asante Kotoko suffer 2-1 defeat to Benab FC in pre-season friendly

Eric Tinkler’s tenure at Asante Kotoko got off to a challenging start as the Porcupine Warriors fell to a 2-1 defeat against Benab FC in a pre-season friendly.

The match, which served as part of the club’s preparations for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season, saw the top-flight side unable to overcome their lower-division opponents.

The result will give the newly appointed South African head coach plenty to reflect on as his team continues their build-up for the new campaign.

Tinkler, who was appointed in July 2026 to bring stability and experience to the club, is working to implement his tactical ideas and build a competitive squad.

Pre-season results are often not indicative of competitive form, but this defeat highlights areas that need improvement before the league campaign kicks off between September 4 and 7.

Kotoko will look to bounce back in their remaining friendly fixtures as they aim to hit peak form for the new season under their new coach.
