Kelsey Owusu scores as Saarbrucken beat Rot-Weiss Essen
German-Ghanaian midfielder Kelsey Owusu scored in stoppage time as FC Saarbrucken defeated Rot-Weiss Essen 5-2 in an entertaining 3. Liga clash at Ludwigspark-Stadion.
His late contribution completed a convincing win for the home side.
Saarbrucken fell behind after Ben Huning opened the scoring for Essen in the 10th minute. Semir Telalovic then doubled the visitors’ advantage 20 minutes later, leaving the hosts facing an early uphill battle.
The home team responded strongly before half-time. Mladen Cvjetinovic pulled one goal back in the 33rd minute, while Christian Kuhlwetter equalised just before the interval. The momentum had shifted completely by the break.
Saarbrucken continued their comeback after half-time. Kai Brunker put them ahead in the 74th minute, and Siemen Voet added a fourth goal 15 minutes later. Essen struggled to contain the pressure as the match entered its final stages.
Owusu then sealed the result in the seventh minute of added time, scoring Saarbrucken’s fifth goal. The midfielder had come on late and made an immediate impact, capping a memorable home victory.
