Danny Jordaan fraud case now hinges on High Court decision

The Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Palm Ridge has postponed the fraud case against South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan and his co-accused to 27 November 2026.

The court postponed the matter to allow the High Court to decide a review application linked to an earlier Section 342A application.

Jordaan, former SAFA chief financial officer Grown Hluyo, former journalist and Grit Communications director Trevor Neethling, Grit Communications and former acting SAFA CEO Russell Paul face multiple charges, including fraud involving more than R1 million, theft and conspiracy to commit fraud and theft.

HIGH COURT REVIEW DELAYS JORDAAN CASE

The accused approached the High Court to review the dismissal of an application brought under Section 342A of the Criminal Procedure Act.

Section 342A allows a court to investigate delays in criminal proceedings.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) communications officer Magaboke Mohlatlole said the State remains ready to proceed.

“The NPA reiterates its readiness to proceed with the case and will await the outcome of the High Court review application before the matter can proceed further,” Mohlatlole said.

STATE DETAILS ALLEGATIONS AGAINST JORDAAN

The State alleges that Jordaan unlawfully signed and backdated a service level agreement between SAFA and Grit Communications in December 2017.

Prosecutors allege Jordaan entered into the agreement without following SAFA’s required approval processes and intended to use the communications services to serve and protect his personal image.

The State also accuses Jordaan of procuring security services for his personal benefit while presenting them as part of SAFA’s business operations.

CO-ACCUSED FACE FRAUD AND THEFT CHARGES

Prosecutors allege Hluyo authorised payments to Grit Communications and a security company despite knowing that SAFA had not authorised the agreements.

The State also alleges that Paul colluded and conspired with the other accused to commit fraud and theft in connection with an allegedly unlawful 2018 service level agreement between SAFA and Grit Communications.

Mohlatlole said the NPA remains committed to finalising the case in accordance with the law and allowing the criminal justice process to take its course.
