JAMB gives candidates final 30-day window to salvage old admissions

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has given candidates with outstanding admission offers dating back to 2021 a final opportunity to either accept or reject the offers, extending the deadline to September 30, 2026.

The extension, which effectively gives affected candidates an additional month to regularise their admission status, is expected to help the Board clean up its admission records and eliminate long-standing uncertainties surrounding unaccepted admission offers.

JAMB had earlier fixed August 31, 2026, as the deadline for candidates offered admission from 2021 to date to indicate whether they accepted or rejected the offers.

In a statement on Saturday, issued through its spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Board stressed that the new deadline would be the final opportunity for all affected candidates, warning that no further extension would be granted after September 30.

According to JAMB, any admission offer from 2021 to date that remains neither accepted nor rejected at the expiration of the deadline will automatically be reverted to “Not Admitted” status on its records.

The Board urged candidates with pending admission offers, including regular and Centralised University Information Admission (CUIIA) offers, not to wait until the deadline before taking action.

It explained that candidates who accept their outstanding offers would be able to proceed to print and obtain their admission letters.

On the other hand, candidates who no longer wish to take up their previous admissions are expected to reject the offers, after which their dashboards would be reverted to “Not Admitted”, enabling JAMB to update its national admission database.

JAMB also provided relief for candidates whose circumstances have changed since receiving their earlier offers.

It said candidates who were offered admission into institutions they no longer attend, or who are currently enrolled in programmes different from those covered by their previous admission offers, could accept the outstanding admission and subsequently apply for the appropriate correction or deletion, where necessary.

The measure, according to the Board, would allow it to properly reconcile and update such candidates’ admission records.

Similarly, candidates already pursuing a second degree but who still have an unaccepted previous admission offer may reject the outstanding offer and continue with their current programmes.

JAMB further sought to allay fears among candidates who have secured admission in the ongoing 2026 admission exercise but still have previous admission offers pending.

The Board clarified that such candidates could reject their old admission offers without any adverse effect on their 2026 admissions.

The latest directive is part of JAMB’s efforts to ensure that its national admission database reflects the actual status of candidates and institutions.

The Board said maintaining accurate and current admission records was critical to ensuring the integrity of Nigeria’s admission process.

It, however, warned that failure to act before the new deadline would have consequences, as unaccepted offers would be invalidated and permanently reflected as “Not Admitted” in the Board’s records.

“Candidates should not wait until the deadline,” JAMB cautioned, urging all affected persons to take immediate action.

The Board reiterated that September 30, 2026, is the final deadline, stressing that there would be no further opportunity after its expiration.
