Tom Homan Questions CBS Reporter on ICE Death Stats and Biden Administration

Four seconds. Four brutal seconds of utter silence that must have felt like an eternity for CBS News immigration correspondent Camilo Montoya-Galvez as he stared blankly at White House Border Czar Tom Homan, completely incapable of answering a simple question from the latter during an interview on Friday.

Montoya-Galvez learned the hard way that you better do your homework when attempting to embarrass Homan with a statistic about ICE detention deaths. Failure to do so can result in permanent humiliation especially if you blank out for four full seconds and as an encore continuing to fail to provide an answer when challenged to do so multiple times by Homan.

💥NEW: Tom Homan *TURNS TABLES* on CBS News immigration correspondent and STUMPS him💥 CBS News’ Camilo Montoya-Galvez asked Homan about deaths in ICE custody under Trump, claiming they “could set a new record high.” While Montoya-Galvez noted the Trump Admin was detaining far more illegal immigrants, he argued that couldn’t be the sole reason. Homan fired back by asking how many died in custody under Biden. Montoya-Galvez sat silently for 4 seconds. Homan asked again and again. Montoya-Galvez had no idea what the answer was. When he finally acknowledged he didn’t have the data, Homan retorted: “Of course you don’t.” Homan asserted Montoya-Galvez’s question was an example of bias against Trump. He also defended ICE’s detention standards. Deaths in ICE detention are tragic, no matter which administration they occur under. But it doesn’t seem like there was anywhere near as much attention on this issue under Biden. Not only did Montoya-Galvez not know the data, it looks like he did not even cover ICE detention deaths under Biden. No wonder Homan’s question stumped him.

— Jason Cohen 🇺🇸 (@JasonJournoDC) October 4, 2026

CAMILO MONTOYA-GALVEZ: We looked at official ICE data, sir, and found that 57 people have died in the agency’s custody so far under this administration. In fact, somebody was just reported to have died in ICE custody today by the agency. 2026 could set a new record high in the number of detainees dying. What is being done to prevent that? And I know one partial explanation is that more people are being detained and so tragically more people are dying, but that can’t be the only explanation, can it be?

TOM HOMAN: How many people died during the Biden Administration?

That simple question appeared to send poor Montoya-Galvez into a state of utter shock to the extent it rendered him painfully mute for those long seconds that seemed to extend to eternity. Finally, Homan attempted to revive him back to something resembling cognition by repeating the question:

HOMAN: How many people died in custody during the Biden Administration? Do you know?

MONTOYA GALVEZ: A significant number.

Finding that vague statistic utterly unsatisfactory, Homan made another attempt with a similar hilarious response from Montoya-Galvez acting like a grade school kid who did not do his homework assignment:

HOMAN: Do you know?

MONTOYA-GALVEZ: But this is going to be the highest year, in 2026, if the pace continues.

Homan wasn’t about to let that pathetic lack of even the slightest bit of statistical precision slide so he came back again with the same question at Montoya-Galvez:

HOMAN: I’m just asking you, do you know how many died during the Biden Administration?

MONTOYA-GALVEZ: I don’t have the data here, but —

And with that admission by Montoya-Galvez that he hadn’t been prepared with any data to back up his claim, Homan provided this ICE-ing on the cake (pun intended) to slam dunk the hapless CBS correspondent:

HOMAN: Of course you don’t. Again, it’s another loaded question against the Trump Administration. ICE has the highest detention standards in the industry.

We must offer the obligatory reminder that this is the same CBS News that is constantly disparaged by the Left as a pro-Trump network under Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss.

The punishment for Camilo Montoya-Galvez for showing up to an interview with Tom Homan completely unprepared is that he must constantly relive these painful yet hilarious moments, which must seem to stretch into an eternity for him, as his own personal Groundhog Day because the internet is forever.

Clear examples do more than decorate an explanation: they show how an idea behaves under recognizable conditions. In education and software documentation alike, strong illustrations begin with a defined goal, then reveal the steps, assumptions, and result without unnecessary detail. A practical test example should state the input, expected output, and boundary condition, because these elements show whether a rule works beyond the simplest case. Including a contrasting case also helps readers distinguish a valid application from a tempting but incorrect one, while concise notes explain why the outcomes differ. When examples are updated with current data and checked against the underlying rule, they remain useful across classrooms, product guides, and professional training.
