Robert Horry has picked out one of the bright spots in the Los Angeles Lakers’ preseason defeat to the Denver Nuggets.
One of the top takeaways from the LA Lakers‘ loss to the Nuggets was the performance of new signing Ziaire Williams.
Williams scored 14 points in 11 minutes, going 2-2 from three-point range. The free agency signing has been impressive throughout preseason and he is in contention to start when the new campaign tips off.
Speaking to the Lakers’ postgame show on Spectrum, former star Robert Horry praised his game and broke down what he likes about Ziaire Williams on and off the ball.
“He might become Mr. Intangible for JJ [Redick] because he picks up the guys full court. We didn’t really talk about that. He kind of turned [Jamal] Murray. Murray got off the ball, which is key for them, and then he’s able to knock down threes at a really good clip.
“I knew he was an athletic guy from High School. I knew he’s an athletic guy from going up in Brooklyn, but I didn’t know his three-point game was as efficient as it is.
“If he can knock down those threes on a consistent basis, and he can play good defense, he’s gonna cause a lot of havoc for this team.
“And when you cause havoc, that’s so good, especially on the offensive end for another team because they can’t get their plays, they can’t run that rhythm, and so he’s a rhythm stopper.”
Ziaire Williams is part of the Lakers’ puzzle
A busy offseason for the LA Lakers saw General Manager Rob Pelinka pursue numerous offseason signings, while letting a number of players leave – including LeBron James.
The biggest piece of business was a trade for Walker Kessler, and speaking this week, Ziaire Williams spoke about his excitement at playing alongside the former Jazz center.
Williams explained how Kessler’s qualities make his own job more straightforward, and we saw some evidence of this in the game against the Nuggets.
The Lakers are not a slick, winning-machine yet, but there are things to like about their roster. Sandro Mamukelashvili also impressed against the Nuggets, with Austin Reaves speaking encouragingly about him postgame.
