Judging by the number of Asian restaurants scattered proudly across the capital’s streets, it is safe to say that Londoners love their curry.
Just this week, judges gathered in London to award Asian restaurants across the UK with accolades for the quality of their offerings at the annual Asian Curry Awards.
Among the categories was the award for the best curry in London, and with areas such as Brick Lane, Tooting and Southall famous for their guarantee of serving up a delicious curry in one of their many restaurants, you would think that one of them would be best placed to be crowned the best curry in London.

But London’s best curry is actually to be found elsewhere, and the answer will surprise you.
Located in the leafy suburb of West Dulwich, Heritage Dulwich was crowned London’s Asian Restaurant of the Year for 2021.
Offering modern Indian dining inspired by the restauranteurs’ cultural past, Heritage puts a contemporary spin on traditional Indian dishes.
The restaurant’s menu was designed by Chef Dayashankar Sharma, who came to the UK in 2000 from India and went on to work for the Tamarind Group which owns some of London’s best-known Indian restaurants, before bringing his Michelin Starred background to Heritage.
Offering sumptuous classics such as Lamb Biryani and Murgh Makhani (a chicken curry cooked in a fresh tomato and fenugreek sauce), Heritage also offers a tasting menu of seven course, available at £68 per person.
Prices on the A La Carte menu start from £12.95.
Heritage has received rave reviews from customers, achieving an average rating of 4.5 from diners on review website TripAdvisor.
One customer praised their experience at the restaurant, and wrote: “ Mouth watering food and excellent customer service.
“Highly recommend and a must visit Indian restaurant in and around London.”
Another diner who gave the restaurant five stars wrote: “Visited with a large group and it was exceptional, we had a huge amount of different dishes and I honestly could not fault a single thing.
“I’ve been to many Indian restaurants but I really can’t remember having food this good anywhere else.
“The service and staff were faultless and the cocktails were also amazing. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.”

The restaurant did receive some criticism from diners for being very loud however, with one writing: “When full the restaurant was extremely loud and it was very difficult to hold a conversation!”
It sounds like Heritage brings an exciting dining experience to London’s curry scene, and is not one to be missed!
