Greek Health Minister Thanos Plevris yesterday condemned the Nazi salute in the court of his father Konstantinos Plevris, who is the lawyer of the MEP and former member of the far-right “Golden Dawn” party Ioannis Lagos, reports ANA-MPA.
The minister told Sky TV that his father had never hidden his ideology, but condemned his gesture in the courtroom.
“My father never hid his ideology, because democracy allows everyone to have whatever ideology they want,” he pointed out. However, Pleuris emphasized that “there are two terrifying things here that gave me goosebumps: the first is that the greeting was made in a courtroom, and the second – (…) that the greeting was made in front of a mother – Magda Fissa, whose son was killed by a neo-Nazi”.
He defined this manifestation as “brutality”.
In October 2020, core members of Golden Dawn, once Greece’s third-largest political party, were convicted of creating and leading a criminal organization and received sentences of up to 13 years and eight months in prison. They were accused of the 2013 murder of anti-fascist rapper Pavlos Fissas and brutal beatings of migrants and political opponents.
An appeals process began in June of this year.
