The Acting National Chairman and current Deputy National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Nafiu Bala, has denied claims of his resignation, describing a letter purportedly bearing his signature and dated May 18, 2025, as forged and misleading.
In a strongly worded statement issued on Friday, Bala dismissed the document as fake, attributing its circulation to “mischievous elements” both within and outside the party seeking to sow discord and confusion.
He warned that, according to the ADC Constitution, any aspirant for a leadership position must have been a financial member of the party for at least one year, emphasizing that the rules governing party leadership remain intact and unchanged.
Referring to an official ADC event held on July 2, 2025, at the Yar’Adua Conference Center in Abuja, Bala recalled that his predecessor, Chief Ralph Nwosu, formally resigned at the gathering and publicly confirmed Bala’s continued role within the party.
“In his address to the global media, he made a specific mention of my status, stating, ‘Nafiu Bala did not resign as the Deputy National Chairman.’ This statement alone invalidates any claims of my resignation and underscores the deceitful nature of the circulated letter,” Bala said.
He further pointed out inconsistencies in the alleged resignation letter, noting that it lacked the standard features of official party correspondence.
“All my official communications are written on the official letterhead bearing the emblem and insignia of the ADC. The fake letter, in contrast, was printed on plain paper without any official markings. This blatant inconsistency only further discredits the document and exposes the malicious intent behind its fabrication.”
Bala also questioned the legitimacy of individuals now positioning themselves as new leaders of the party, stressing that they do not meet the constitutional requirements for party leadership.
“The Constitution of the African Democratic Congress clearly stipulates that anyone seeking a leadership role must be a party member in good standing and must have fulfilled their financial obligations for no less than one year prior to contesting. This provision remains binding and cannot be bypassed.”
He called on party members, supporters, and the general public to remain vigilant and not be misled by what he described as attempts to destabilize the party’s leadership.
“Our party is founded on the principles of democracy, transparency, and integrity. It is imperative that we stand together in defense of these values. I remain committed to the ideals of the African Democratic Congress and to our collective mission of building a united and prosperous Nigeria.”
Bala reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and vowed to continue working toward strengthening its internal structures and public trust.
