Goals from Abbey Benson, Uche Collins, Cyril Olisema and Wisdom Fernando were on the scoresheet for Akwa United FC to secure a 4-1 win over FC ONE Rockets in the Akwa Ibom State FA Cup final.
Imam Bala scored what turned out to be a consolation for the Rockets but it was another happy day for the Promise Keepers who went home with a record extending 14th AKFA Cup title.
The 2023 Akwa Ibom State FA Cup was organized by the Footballing Association in partnership with SMEsports and so a new title was presented to Akwa United FC.
In the final game decided at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo on Monday March 20, 2023 it was Akwa United FC who took the lead when Abbey Benson headed home in the 18th minute.
Cyril Olisema sent striker Uche Collins through on goal and the forward made no mistake firing past the Rockets goalkepeer for 2-0 25 minutes into the game.
FC ONE Rockets pulled one back through Imam Bala in the 29th minute. Cyril Olisema did restore Akwa United FC’s 2-goal lead in the 36th minute following a mix up in the Rockets six-yard.
First half ended 3-1 in favour of Coach Ayodeji Ayeni tutored Akwa United FC.
The second half did not produce as much spark as the first. FC ONE Rockets came up stronger and shared spells of possession with the Promise Keepers.
Exciting winger Wisdom Fernando added a goal of his own deep into stoppage time as it finished Akwa United FC 4-1 FC ONE Rockets at the blast of Referee Ben Onyika’s whistle for full-time.
Akwa United FC received the trophy, their 14th in the competition.
Akwa United FC and FC ONE Rockets will represent Akwa Ibom State when the National Federation Cup Competition gets underway later this year.
