Anders Vejrgang won the inaugural EA Sports FC Pro World Championship in Berlin to claim his $250,000 share of the $1 million prize pool.
Vejrgang beat Yuval Blizovsky in Saturday’s finals, outlasting the 32 players who competed in the three-day event.
“I didn’t realize that I actually won, but I felt that I played amazing today. I’m just really happy that I finally saw that I’m the best in the world,” Vejrgang said. “I’m so grateful to all the people that have helped me throughout my whole career, but this is the beginning, and I just want to win every tournament from now on and I know that I’m good enough to do it.”
The competition began with more than 50,000 players around the world. FC Pro Open champion PHzin and eChampions League winner Jonny were among the 32 finalists, but it was Vejrgang who came out on top.
Vejrgang emerged from the single-elimination bracket and then went on to dominate Blizovsky with a 7-0 win in the grand final.
“The first ever FC Pro World Championship delivered incredible storylines and elite EA Sports FC competition that matched the prestige of this marquee event and unbelievable season,” said Sam Turkbas, Senior Director & Commissioner Esports – EA Sports. “The first year of FC Pro exceeded our expectations and proved there is a global appetite for competition on the virtual pitch.
“Congratulations to Anders Vejrgang on becoming our first-ever FC Pro World Champion and thank you to all the competitors and fans for making this an unforgettable debut season.”
