An important part of any good story is how it ends. Even a good joke is made by the punchline that comes at the end, which gets everyone laughing uncontrollably.
This is true of Folake Ani-Mumuney’s (popularly known as FAM) tenure as the Global Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at FirstBank Group and FBN Holdings.
It has been a carefully-planned journey with a well-laid-out vision pursued through determination, hard work, integrity and resilience, enabling her to weather all storms and wade through different challenges that came with the job. Serving under three CEOs of FirstBank Group and at least four CEOs of FBN Holdings, FAM has so excellently discharged the duties and responsibilities of her office that the image of the institution and its CEOs has continued to be on the ascendancy. The FirstBank/FBN Holdings brand has continued to enjoy ever-increasing equity with FAM at the head of the team with the core function of managing the brand. The brand had never been better positioned at any other time in its recent history.
Humble, unassuming and playful with a deep sense of humor, FAM is an empathetic leader who shows deep consideration for others while keeping her focus on the big picture.
She rolls up her sleeve, working side by side with her people to deliver the many strategic initiatives that have continued to position FirstBank/FBN Holdings as an iconic brand in Nigeria and Africa.
FAM has been most supportive and generous when it comes to reproducing herself in the people who work with her and developing their capacities. She has not held back anything critical to grooming the staff who have worked with her, ensuring that they are not just competent but also assimilate leadership skills.
Little wonder someone on LinkedIn recently credited her with birthing of the largest pool of CMOs (chief marketing officers) in Nigeria, as many of those who have worked with her before have gone on to head the marketing communications functions in the organisations they now work for.
With the end of the FirstBank/FBN Holdings chapter in her illustrious career journey, the question of where FAM moves next or what her next chapter will be may be major in the banking community. The only certainty about what is next is FAM’s excitement and passion.
Yes, the same excitement and passion that marked her time at Nigerian premier bank and previous workplaces follow her like a shadow. It is gratifying that the same spirit has been imbued by the capable team she is leaving behind. They promise, sure, not only to sustain her legacy but to build on it.
