Armed men invade Gomoa Akyempim Palace to halt ancestral rites
Unidentified armed men numbering about 17 on July 9, 2024, stormed the Gomoa Akyempim Palace in the Central region allegedly to forestall the performance of sacred ancestral rites.
The incident is reported to have occurred at about 11:00 pm on July 9, 2024.
According to the Paramount Queenmother, Obaatanpa Ama Eduwa I, she received distressing reports from local chiefs, Asafo, and residents regarding the presence of the intruders.
Tensions nearly erupted into severe clashes as Asafo members confronted the armed men.
The Apam Police command pleaded with the Queen mother to abandon the performance of the sacred ancestral rituals to prevent the situation from escalating.
As tensions soared amidst a downpour, calm was eventually restored by residents and Asafo companies eager to remove the intruders.
Obaatanpa Ama Eduwa I in a statement said she has filed an official complaint with the Apam Police Command and appealed to the IGP to act swiftly against these threats to avoid any clashes.
