Two people are in hospital, each in a critical condition, after separate early-morning assaults in Wellington and Christchurch today.
A person was rushed to hospital in Wellington after police were called to a disorder incident on Dixon Street, near the intersection with Taranaki Street, about 4am.
Police said three men, aged 21, 23 and 28, had been charged with fighting and were to appear in court tomorrow.
Two of the men (the ones aged 21 and 23) arrested have also been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in relation to the incident.
In Christchurch, officers were called to a bar on Hereford Street at about 1am, after a person was assaulted.
The injured person was taken to Christchurch Hospital.
Police said the offender left the scene before officers arrived and had not yet been found.
