The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position with expertise in the science of CLIMATE CHANGE AND CLIMATE PROJECTIONS. The ideal candidate would have a focus in either climate dynamics, climate modeling, statistical and dynamical downscaling, climate risk, or climate impacts, with possible additional expertise in data science and machine learning/artificial intelligence.
This position is part of a hiring cluster on “Climate Impacts, Risk, and Inequality” within the School of Earth, Society and Environment, as well as a campus-wide interdisciplinary supercluster on the theme of “Sustainable, Just, and Resilient Society in the face of Environmental and Societal Change”. This position is a nine-month academic appointment with a target start date of August 16, 2024. Successful candidates are expected to effectively teach a diverse student body at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, establish and maintain an active and independent research program, and provide service to the department, the university, and the profession. Candidates with a documented commitment to working with students or faculty from groups historically marginalized or underrepresented in the field through teaching, mentoring, or administration are especially encouraged to apply.
A Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, meteorology, or a closely related field, is required. Starting salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
