Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been made to train by himself by Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta, who also left him out of the last two matchday squads.
The Gabonese forward has been stripped of the captaincy at the London club and also won’t be involved against Leeds United on Saturday after returning late from a trip to France to visit his unwell mother.
The club had told him to return to London on Wednesday night last week, but he didn’t arrive until the following morning.
Arteta has said that a leadership group has been put together to replace Aubameyang as club captain following the incident.
He was told earlier this week to train at home but is believed to be back at the club’s training facilities working by himself, and it’s understood that Arsenal have requested he work at the training ground with a training plan devised by club staff.
AFCON approaching
Aubameyang, who is expected to take part in the Africa Cup of Nations with Gabon later in the month, still has 18 months left on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, but it looks like his Arsenal career may already be over.
Arsenal’s away trip to Leeds is one of just five Premier League fixtures due to take place this weekend after a wave of COVID-19 infections saw several games postponed in England.
