A niece of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who is a prominent human rights activist, has called on governments around the world to sever ties with Iran over the Iranian authorities’ violence against demonstrators, Reuters reported.
A video of this appeal by Farideh Moradhani – a graduate engineer whose father is a prominent Iranian opposition figure and married to Khamenei’s sister – went viral on social media after the opposition news agency HRANA reported that she had been arrested on November 23.
“O free people, stand with us and tell your rulers to stop supporting this bloody regime that kills children,” Moradhani says in the video.
“This regime does not adhere to any of its religious principles and knows no other rules than force and the preservation of power,” she added.
According to HRANA, the news arm of Human Rights Activists (HRA) in Iran, in the demonstrations that started more than two months ago, 450 protesters have died so far across Iran, incl. 63 minors. 60 security personnel were also killed and 18,173 demonstrators were detained. The protests began over the death of a young woman in the custody of the moral police, but later turned into political protests demanding the overthrow of the ayatollahs’ regime.
