A fundraiser has been set up following the “heartbreaking” death of a father of two children who was gunned down in Oakwood Village this week.

Trevor John, a Toronto resident, died of his injuries in hospital after gunfire erupted early Tuesday in front of a lowrise apartment building on Winona Dr. near Vaughan Rd.

A woman was injured in the shooting as well. She was also taken to hospital and treated for her injuries.
Following John’s death, a GoFundMe page was set up by his step-sister Jesenia Silva to help cover the cost of arranging funeral and memorial services.
“On May 7, 2024, our beloved Trevor Dalton John, aged 31, was tragically taken from us in a sudden and heartbreaking turn of events,” Silva wrote.
“Trevor leaves behind a devastated family, including his parents, Margaret and Trevor, his step-mother, Emma and Tracy, his brothers, Macaulay and Julian, his step-sisters, Jesenia and Sydney, and his two precious sons.”

John was described as “a beacon of joy, and a pillar of strength” for the family.
“His infectious laughter, compassionate heart, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who knew him.”
As of Thursday afternoon, more than 90 people had donated at least $9,300 to the online fundraiser.
“As we mourn the loss of Trevor, let us also celebrate the beautiful life he lived and the profound impact he had on all of us,” the GoFundMe states. “His memory will forever be cherished in our hearts, and his spirit will continue to inspire us to live each day with love, kindness, and gratitude.”

Toronto Police say John’s killer, or killers, fled in a vehicle but investigators have yet to release any suspect descriptions.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the shooting, or who has dashcam video that could help investigators, to come forward.
