Technology is transforming the beauty and wellness industry. The “one-size-fits-all” paradigm is no longer the only option. Beauty gadgets have become smarter and more personalised, harnessing Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) and having the ability to link to smartphones. Customisation and personalisation are all the more crucial in a market like Asia Pacific, where people have diverse skin colours, and textures.
Nu Skin, a global leader in the beauty and wellness business, recognises these facts and has been coming up with innovations geared towards customisation and personalisation for its customers. And their latest ageLOC LumiSpa iO is a reflection of Nu Skin’s continuous drive towards beauty innovation.

Editor’s Review
The ageLOC LumiSpa basic kit comes with the LumiSpa iO device, one silicone treatment head, treatment cleaner and wireless charger. Getting the ageLOC LumiSpa iO up and running is a relatively easy process. You can choose to either use it on its own or pair it with Nu Skin Vera app for optimal results. I decide to pair the device to the app to see if it would really make much of an impact.
Once I have created an account and logged into the Vera app, there are clear instructions on how to pair your ageLOC LumiSpa iO to the app. And after the quick pairing process, I am able to choose from a few preset treatments within the app. The default treatment is the Daily Cleanse and Treat, which lasts for two minutes and targets four areas on your face, namely the forehead, chin, cheeks and nose.
Two minutes might seem like an eternity for those who are rushing in the morning. So Nu Skin has already put in place a one-minute Quick Cleanse as one of the treatments. I decide to try the default two-minute one at night.
The process starts with applying the ageLOC LumiSpa treatment cleanser evenly to the face after moistening it with warm water. All I need to do is to simply hit the power button on the ageLOC LumiSpa iO device or select ‘Start Treatment’ in the Vera app and the treatment head starts oscillating. The app guides me on which area to target first and will pause to prompt me to move on to the next part of my face to focus on. On each area, I just need to use wide strokes to slowly glide the treatment head back and forth.
I typically don’t spend two minutes massaging the cleanser on my face. It was always a quick application and rinse-and-go. But using the ageLOC LumiSpa iO device does feel comfortable. I actually feel like letting the device go on and on on my face, if not for the automatic timer that stops the device. The treatment head is made of soft, non-abrasive silicone so it feels gentle on the skin and does not damage the skin like rough bristles do. The silicone heads also contain antimicrobial silver, which makes it more hygienic than brushes.
I do have one gripe about the device design though. It would have been ideal if the ageLOC LumiSpa iO device has been designed to be able to stand on its own, like an electric toothbrush as an example. Or a stand should have been provided as part of the kit, given that the retail price is on the high side at S$514. I find it taking up too much space having to lay the device on its side.
In terms of its cleansing ability, my face feels smooth yet not tight after rinsing off the cleanser. The cleanser I used with the device is the ageLOC LumiSpa Activating Cleanser which contains milk thistle oil. porphyra umbilicalis extract and nannochloropsis oculata extract to help maintain the skin’s natural moisture barrier. One thing to note is that fragrance is an ingredient in the cleanser. I would have preferred for the cleanser to be fragrance-free.
Will I continue using the ageLOC LumiSpa iO device? To see real results, I will have to continue using it for a longer period of time. Being a fuss-free person, I had thought that I would find it a hassle having to do this extra step in my skincare routine. But, in the end, I found myself enjoying the two-minute treatment. It’s much like a facial massage treat, if you are willing to fork out the extra moolah for it, that is.
The ageLOC LumiSpa iO system retails at www.nuskin.com.sg for $514.
