Can anyone stop Weymouth Wales?
That is the daunting question on everyone’s lips after the recent round of matches in the Barbados Football Association (BFA) Premier League.
Last Sunday night at the BFA Wildey Turf, the “green machine” from Carrington Village defeated title challengers Ellerton SC 2-0 to move onto nine points from three matches.
Ellerton and Wales have engaged in intense, competitive and aggressive battles in recent times, with Wales coming out the victor most often, and this time was no different.

The first half was marred by unnecessary and reckless fouls which interrupted the game too often, and did not allow the large crowd of spectators to enjoy the brand of football they came to see.
Neither goalkeeper was troubled in the first period of the game, as most of the action existed in the middle third of the pitch and when the ball reached in the attacking third poor decisions and technical breakdowns thwarted any potential attacks.
Wales made a tactical change at the break and brought on midfielder Sheran Hoyte for Nadre Butcher, and this move provided the opportunity for the opening goal in the 56th minute.
Hoyte, received the ball on the right hand side of the penalty area and played a precise pass onto the head of Kemar Headley, but his well-directed header struck the right upright and fell kindly for strike partner Shaquille Stewart to slot home the rebound from inside the six yard box.
The feisty exchanges continued and referee Kevon Clarke was forced into action numerous times to quell clashes between players and distribute cautions for reckless challenges.

Ellerton paid for one such challenge in the 76th minute.
Ja’von Austin fouled substitute Janash Jaunai and gave wingback Andre Applewhaite the opportunity to deliver an inviting cross into the penalty area, which national defender Akeem Hill met with his head to guide the ball into the right corner.
Wales now have a perfect record of three wins from three matches, scoring nine goals and allowing just one.
