According to The Neighborhood Talk, blogger Tasha K, also known as Latasha Transrina Kebe, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after a judge ordered her to pay Cardi B nearly $4 million in defamation damages.
The Grammy-winning musician Cardi B sued Tasha K in 2019, claiming that she had waged a malicious smear campaign against her by spreading untrue information. These untrue claims included claims that she had herpes, used a beer bottle as a sex object when she was an exotic dancer, engaged in prostitution, and abused cocaine.
Cardi B received more than $2.5 million in damages and an additional $1.3 million in legal costs after a jury found in her favor in January of last year. In her Chase Bank account, Tasha K had only $95 as of her most recent bankruptcy petition. Her personal belongings totaled $58,595.56 and included purses, vehicles, clothing, an engagement ring, and items related to her business. She does not, however, now face being evicted from her house.
Tasha K attempted to appeal the verdict, but in March a court rejected her appeal. Cardi B said that the situation had negatively impacted her mental health, made her feel suicidal, and damaged her marriage. She labeled the defendant’s acts as those of a “evil person.”
Tasha K reportedly acknowledged intentionally disseminating false information about Cardi B in order to advance the commercial objectives of her YouTube network. The court ruled that Tasha K had not offered enough proof to back up her demand for a new trial.
Lisa Moore and Andrew Pequignot, Cardi B’s attorneys, expressed their happiness with the court’s ruling and said they thought the evidence in the case firmly supported the jury’s conclusion.
