Orlando Pirates are believed to be making serious efforts to rope in their fifth signing of the transfer window!
Pirates are continuing to reshape and rebuild their squad ahead of the new season, with a target in sight.
Pirates have four signings thus far
So far, Pirates have signed Thalente Mbatha on a permanent deal and Selaela Rasebotja from SuperSport United on a free. In attacking areas, they have also added the likes of Gilberto. The Angolan costing R10 million from Petro de Luanda. The blond-haired winger won’t be the only wideman signed by the club, with Thuso Moleleki also a new addition to the cause. It is believed that there are still a few positions that they want to strengthen ahead of next season.
One of those positions is certainly right-back. They were thought to have wrapped up the signing of Kegan Johannes from SuperSport, but he has since joined rivals Mamelodi Sundowns. That has seen them go back to their long-term target and Stellenbosch FC captain Deano van Rooyen! According to iDiski Times, Pirates have lodged an official bid to the Cape Winelands side for their star man.
Van Rooyen bid sent to Stellenbosch!
“Orlando Pirates have made an official approach for Stellenbosch FC captain Deano van Rooyen ahead of the new season. Pirates have now made a bid for his services to Stellenbosch, who are also keen to retain him, having recently tabled a contract extension offer. However, iDiski Times understands the club are resigned to losing their influential leader, who’s spent his entire professional club career with the Cape Winelands outfit. Should Pirates reach an agreement with Stellenbosch and personal terms are finalised, Van Rooyen will become their latest signing of the window after the likes of Thalante Mbatha, Selaelo Rasebotja, Gilberto and Thuso Moleleki.” Wrote the publication.
If Pirates sign van Rooyen, he will compete with the likes of Bandile Shandu, Thabiso Lebitso and Thabiso Monyane. With Stellenbosch having a continental campaign of their own this season, it remains to be seen if they will accept.
Pirates fans, how massive a signing would van Rooyen be? Feel free to leave your thoughts and comments below.
