A rising star in Brixton’s music scene has released her latest single, a nostalgic glance back to the South London of the 1990s.
Mami Marissa released ‘99’, at the start of November. With a unique blend of Hip Hop and RnB, the 35-year-old draws inspiration from her Brixton roots.
Through a mix of upbeat rhythms by Magevizo and Ms Marissa’s own catchy melodies, the song captures the carefree spirit of Brixton in her teenage years, a time filled with laughter, and the joy of youth.
An accompanying music video features community figures and a walk through Loughborough, her childhood neighbourhood.
Born into a musical family, Ms Marissa grew up listening to Lovers rock, Reggae, Hip hop and RnB, with each genre inspiring the tracks she makes today.
Earlier this year Ms Marissa performed at her first major festival, City Splash. The annual Brockwell Park event is London’s biggest celebration of reggae, dancehall and afrobeats.
But, the mum of two who also works for the NHS as a Care Navigator, is showing no signs of slowing down.
The artist is currently working on her first rap project with South London producer, Blackmale beats, a collaboration which is set to be a game changer.
