Paul Pelosi, the husband of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was convicted of causing injury while driving under the influence of alcohol after he pled guilty to the charge on Tuesday, August 23, prosecutors said. The charge was related to a traffic collision on May 28. The 82-year-old had also been charged with having a 0.08 per cent blood alcohol level or higher causing injury, but the presiding judge, Joseph Solga, dismissed the second charge based on Pelosi’s plea. Among the punitive measures in the sentence handed down by Solga were five days in jail, court fines, victim restitution and a three-year driving probation. Following Pelosi’s conviction, California Highway Patrol released footage from the scene of the May 28 collision in which he can be seen interacting with responding officers.
