Cameroon’s women’s national football team, the Indomitable Lionesses, will be without their star player Nchout Ajara Njoya for the upcoming 2024 Olympic qualification matches against Nigeria’s Super Falcons.
The Cameroon Football Federation confirmed Njoya’s absence from the crucial doubleheader against Nigeria, citing her ongoing recovery from an injury.
As vice-captain of the Lionesses, Njoya’s presence will be sorely missed as Cameroon aims to secure a spot in the women’s football tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
The two-legged qualifier between Cameroon and Nigeria is scheduled for February 23 and 26, with the winner progressing to the final round of Olympic qualifiers.
Njoya’s injury was reported to team medics earlier, prompting her withdrawal from the upcoming matches. The Cameroon Football Federation made an official announcement regarding Njoya’s unavailability for the fixtures, expressing regret over her absence.
“Due to injury, the vice-captain of the indomitable Lioness, Nchout Njoya Ajara, is withdrawn for the double confrontation between Cameroon and Nigeria counting for the 3rd round of the elimination of the “Paris” Olympic games.
“To replace her, the coach called on striker, Kameni Flora (FC Ebolowa) who is expected in the den in the next hours.“ reads the statement.
In Njoya’s stead, the Lionesses’ coach has called upon striker Kameni Flora from FC Ebolowa to join the team for the crucial qualifiers. Flora is expected to bolster the team’s attacking options as they prepare to face Nigeria in their quest for Olympic qualification.
