Ironwomen and Aussie cricket wife Candice Warner will be heard all across Sydney in her new gig starting this Saturday.
Ironwomen Candice Warner, who is married to Aussie cricket star David Warner, has new a gig talking sport.
Candice will join Triple M on Saturdays from 10am to 12pm as part of its revamped Dead Set Legends program in Sydney.
She will be joined by Dan Ginnane, who has been with the station since 2002, and Richard Freedman, a name synonymous with Australian horse racing.
In a statement Candice said she was thrilled to take up the role.
“What better way to kick off 2022 then as part of the famous Dead Set Legends crew with Dan Ginnane and Richard Freedman. I can’t wait to get started,” she said.
Speaking of Candice, Triple M Sydney content director Rex Morris said: “Joining the team is someone who has impressed with every appearance on Triple M, and we’re just so thrilled to have a permanent spot on our line up for Candice Warner.
“The boys are in the presence of an ironwoman in every respect.”
The Warners’ start to the year so far has involved an expensive celebration with a boat cruise around Sydney Harbour, basking in another Ashes victory.
It came just a month after Candice opened up about the difficulties associated with being married to someone who spends so many days a year away from home.
Candice said she and David, who have three young daughters, had only spent the equivalent of three months together over the past 14 months and said lockdowns had taken their toll.
In the last couple of months of the year, Candice was also vocal about issues plaguing Australian cricket.
Candice spoke out criticising her husband’s ongoing ban from leadership positions, declaring all players involved in the sandpaper scandal have “done their time”.
As a punishment for their roles in the ball-tampering scandal in South Africa in 2018, Steve Smith was banned from taking up a leadership position for two years and Warner was banned for the rest of his career. In December, Smith became Australian Test vice-captain.
She also weighed in on the Tim Paine sexting scandal.
Paine resigned as Australian cricket captain after a series of lewd texts between him and a former Cricket Tasmania staffer from 2017 surfaced.
The wicketkeeper was the subject of a Cricket Australia investigation that cleared him of any breaches, but questions have been asked about the governing body.
Candice said she feels uncomfortable with how CA had held Paine to a different level of accountability compared to when he was just a player.
“I read an opinion piece by Jessica Halloran today in the Australian and she had a very valid point that made me think … they were basically saying that it is not okay for an Australian captain to send these messages but it’s OK for an Australian player,” Warner told 2GB radio.
“As a wife of an Australian player, that is slightly concerning and it does make me worry.”
