News Americas, NEW YORK, NY, August 17, 2023: Abigail Jo Shry, a resident of Alvin, Texas, is now under federal scrutiny for allegedly leaving death threats in a voicemail directed at the Caribbean immigrant judge overseeing former President Trump’s D.C. criminal case related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election.
In a recent development, prosecutors have accused Shry of sending a racist message to U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan’s chambers on August 5th, coupled with threats to “kill anyone who went after” Trump, individuals in the LGBTQ community, all Democrats in D.C., and a specific threat aimed at Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas). These allegations are outlined in a criminal complaint.
Shry now faces a charge of transmitting a threat to injure another person, as detailed in the complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas on Friday.
The message reportedly included the chilling words: “You are in our sights, we want to kill you.” Shry further added, “If Trump doesn’t get elected in 2024, we are coming to kill you, so tread lightly, b—h. … You will be targeted personally, publicly, your family, all of it.”
During the investigation, Shry admitted to leaving the message but asserted that she had no intentions of acting on her words by traveling to D.C. or Houston. Regarding Lee’s safety, she mentioned, “we need not worry” if Lee were to visit Alvin.
A federal judge in Texas’ Southern District ordered that Shry be held without bond during a preliminary detention hearing. The order highlighted that Shry had faced similar allegations four times in the past year and had been out on bond on August 5th.
Trump has publicly attacked Jamaican born Judge Chutkan in the days and weeks since the indictment, where he was charged with four counts related to efforts to overturn the 2020 election. On Friday, August 11th, the judge entered a protective order that limits what evidence handed over by prosecutors Trump and his legal team can publicly disclose.
