And first and foremost, that means with our team selections….
Chelsea welcome Brentford to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday evening as Premier League action continues for us.
Kick off is at 7.45pm UK time and you can watch it live on BT Sport 3.
Somehow, Chelsea have been given a 57% win probability, with Brentford only being given 19%.
Both teams have been in similar poor form in the last five matches, and Brentford are just one place above Chelsea in the league. However, a win wont see Chelsea leapfrog them because they are five points clear of us.
Brentford haven’t won in six matches, and recently they have lost to Wolves, Newcastle, and Manchester United.
However, based on form overall this season, you certainly shouldn’t be betting on Chelsea to win this game.
We know how dangerous Brentford can be, and you only have to mention the name Ivan Toney and know they have more of a goalscoring threat than us right now based on recent performances.
But for Chelsea it’s a prime chance to at least give some young players or fringe players some minutes. But to be honest, I am not entirely convinced that Frank Lampard will do so. I’m ready for more disappointment in that sense at least.
We know that there won’t be any players such as Lewis Hall or Harvey Vale coming in from the academy, because they played on Monday night. So there is the first disappointment. I mean, why not use these games now to at least let one of two of them get some more first team experience off the bench?
I think I know Lampard’s thinking though and really, can you blame him? He’s come in and lost four games in a row, imagine if he keeps losing games and doesn’t get another win all season?
It’s quite feasible. I think he believes it might damage his reputation even further and therefore he will lean on the experienced players in the squad to try and get some good results going into the rest of the season. I completely understand his way of thinking.
But there is such thing as bad experience and I actually think playing some of the youngsters would give us a better chance of getting results. I just hope we don’t see too many minutes for players who are definitely leaving this summer, then I will be truly disappointed.
The one I really want to see get some solid minutes is Carney Chukwuemeka, who could really have a chance to express himself starting tomorrow night. I’d also like to see Noni Madueke and David Datro Fofana, as well as starts for Mykhailo Mudryk. It’s a real chance now for Chelsea to express themselves in more ways than one.
