Virtually every day there are debates held on social media ranking NBA players. Some are healthier than others, as some of the lists are made just to get a rise out of people looking to gain notoriety on social media.
One person who doesn’t need to make a name for himself anymore is Charles Barkley. The Hall of Famer and 75th Anniversary Team member is no stranger to making some hot takes, but he sticks to them with conviction, you won’t see him waffling on his decisions.
One of his hot takes is about the Golden State Warriors. He has some bias towards them, which has waned in recent years. His opinion on where Stephen Curry ranks on the all-time list will rile some people up, as he believes he is in the 10-20 range.
When looking objectively, Barkley has a good point. Cracking that top-10 is extremely difficult, as there seems to be somewhat of a consensus about eight of those top players. After that, the debate unfolds, but Barkley did offer an interesting take on Curry.
While he isn’t ready to put him inside his top 10, he believes that is now in the conversation for the best point guard to play the game. Barkley believes he is closing in on Detroit Pistons great Isiah Thomas.
“He’s at the table in the Hall of Fame with Isiah Thomas as probably the best point guards. Those two guys are probably the two best points to ever play the game.”
That roar you heard was Los Angeles Lakers fans, who will go to bat saying Magic Johnson is the greatest point guard ever to live. Barkley had a response for that, as well.
“Magic Johnson is a little unique because he’s a 6-foot-10 point guard,” Barkley said. “He played it differently. But I put Steph right up there with Isiah Thomas as the best little guards to ever play the game.”
Those are certainly some hot takes for Charles Barkley, as Isiah Thomas is a tier or two behind Stephen Curry on most people’s all-time lists. Given how well Curry has been playing and that he has shown no signs of slowing down, there is certainly a chance that he breaks into Sir Charles’ top-10 by the time it is all said and done.
