A selection of portraits by Tiohtià:ke/Montreal-based photographer Charlotte Rainville. Rainville holds a BFA in Photography and Psychology from Concordia University and has also studied at San Francisco State University. Her practice focuses on visually translating and celebrating the ephemeral nature of human existence and its interactions with light. This involves a process of recording and re-enacting her interactions with nature, daily rituals, and loved ones. Rainville is currently working on the production and publishing of Vista, an artist’s book and exhibition.
“Through photography’s power to subjectively fix details, I strive to visually piece together, preserve, and honour the fleeting, intangible essence of being alive. I seek to translate, deconstruct, and hold onto the sublime moments found in my surroundings. My practice is a direct visual response to my preoccupation with the perishability of relationships, phases of euphoria, time spent outdoors and the splendour of the mundane.”
