Charlton Athletic defender Kayne Ramsay has stepped up his return from a knee injury.
The 24-year-old has not featured since coming off with a problem in the home game against Stockport County in the middle of October.
But Addicks manager Nathan Jones was able to provide some positive information on Ramsay when he conducted his press conference before Saturday’s trip to Northampton Town.
Asked about Ramsay, the Welshman said: “He’s a lot closer than he was before. We’ve had some good news. He is back out running. He is not as far away as probably people think. It was a really frustrating one because he was in such good form for us. He was a big part of what we did and he provided that balance on the right-hand side, which is something we’ve lacked.
“We’ve had Tyreece Campbell out there and tried to find a solution to that right side because ironically we’ve had three people who can play out there – Tennai (Watson), Kayne and Zach Mitchell – all injured.
“Kayne is mentally in a good place. We have got good people here and a good environment. He is at the final bit of that, that we get him back sooner rather than later.
“We only bring people back when they are ready and it is safe to do so – regardless of whether that is the Christmas period or we have a game every 10 days. We understand someone will come back but won’t play five 90 minutes in two weeks but the squad is strong enough to handle that.”
