If you look at every successful football club in history, just look at the importance of the players who play in their spines. Chelsea’s most successful teams of the past have had some of the best spines I’ve ever seen in football.
It is imperative that we give Mauricio Pochettino his spine at Chelsea this summer. You cannot do the job without the right tools.
Pochettino, I have a lot of faith in and I think is the perfect manager and person to come in to our club right now under the circumstances we are in. But he needs to be given every single bit of help to make sure he is fully supported through this hugely tough task that he has ahead of him.
I keep saying this, but it’s so important that we get things right this summer, it has to be bang on. Perfect is a word I will often say does not exist, but Chelsea must try and get this summer transfer window as close to perfect as possible.
The club knows what we need, I am sure of that. They got Enzo Fernandez in the door against all the odds, and even the January transfer window was decent on the whole. I still hold some faith that this transfer window will end up to be another good one and we will have provided Pochettino with the majority of what he wants within reason.
The spine is SO important though, and that means we have to get it spot on signing a new goalkeeper, a new defensive midfielder, and a new striker this summer. It’s SO important, and I cannot emphasise that enough.
We’ve already seen sagas before the window has even opened with Manuel Ugarte. If we pulled the plug because the fees involved went ridiculously sky high, especially wages, then fair play to us in all honesty.
We cannot be spending on stupidly high wages and we have to be as smart as possible. It’s a balancing act. But use the scouts, use the guys with the best talent I.D, and let’s get those profiles we need. Those strong mentalities, those suitably experienced players, and let’s not take any gambles with our recruitment this summer. We need to look at specifics, and those specifics must start with winning mentality monsters and ready-made experience, at least in our spine.
