As you will know, Chelsea are being investigated by the league for historical rule breaking under the Roman Abramovich ownership.
There are so many breaches and charges being investigated related to previous transfer deals under the previous ownership that it looks like it is going to be impossible for Chelsea to avoid any serious punishment here.
It’s all hugely complex and there are SO many issues and incidents that Chelsea are being investigated for, hence why it has taken so long.
But a conclusion is now very close….
Premier League chief executive Richard Masters spoke on the Chelsea investigation yesterday:
“Obviously what we’re talking about is something historic; it’s complicated where we have the club talking to us about things that happened under previous ownership. All I can say is that the investigation and discussions are reaching a conclusion, but until that happens, I can’t say what’s going to happen next.”
Personally, it is my opinion that perhaps we should just prepare for the worst. I don’t know what is going to happen, but if we expect the worst here then anything else is a bonus.
As I reported last week, Chelsea are doing exactly that, preparing for the worst. They feel that they are in for a possible fine and a transfer ban that could surpass more than one or two windows. SPTC sources have said that this is one of the many reasons why they have been stockpiling talent and signing so many players. Not the only reason though. We reported this a couple of weeks back.
I saw that Rob Pratley suggested Chelsea could be handed a multi-window transfer ban for the breaches, which he suggests could perhaps be two years (so four windows). He also says he thinks it might be that but without a fine.
Remember, this is just Rob’s opinion. nobody yet knows what the punishment will be.
But as said, Chelsea are just planning for the worst and preparing for all eventualities. But they also believe that self-reporting the issues have helped them and should see the results of that in the punishment.
