There have been some fantastic hat-trick tales written at Chelsea down the years. From Samuel Eto’o, to Eden Hazard and Frank Lampard, some of the modern Chelsea greats have created some amazing memories.
But long before that, there were prolific goalscorers wearing the famous blue and banging in hat-tricks left, right and centre. Anytime we start talking about Chelsea hat-tricks, the great Jimmy Greaves, an unstoppable force in front of goal has to be included, for example.
Punters at bet £10 get £20 sportsbooks today are looking towards the likes of Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku and Raheem Sterling to come up with those special days. It’s time to talk about Chelsea hat-tricks.
The Most Recent
There currently isn’t a player on the books at Chelsea who has scored a Premier League hat-trick for the club. Mason Mount, who moved to Manchester United in the summer of 2023 was the last man to do so, netting one against Norwich in October 2021.
Christian Pulisic, Tammy Abraham, Eden Hazard and Alvaro Morata are the only other Chelsea players to have scored a top flight hat-trick for Chelsea since 2014. So when will the next hat-trick hero come along, and who will it be?
The four goal stars
In the Premier League area, there have been four occasions on which a Chelsea player has scored four goals in a single game. The first to do that was the late great Gianluca Vialli. The brilliant Italian netted a four-goal haul against Barnsley in 1997.
Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink was the next to follow with four goals in a game against Coventry in 2000. The feat wouldn’t happen again until 2008 when Frank Lampard stepped up to score four against Derby.
Just two years later Lampard was at it again, scoring four goals against Aston Villa in a massive 7-1 victory.
Who did the hat-tricks happen against?
There has been quite a mixed bag of opponents that Chelsea’s hat-tricks have come against. Logic also dictates that most of them have happened against teams who were in a fairly weak position at the time.
There have been four teams that Chelsea have scored two hat-tricks against in the Premier League:
- Wolverhampton (Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink 2002, Tammy Abraham 2019)
- Tottenham (Tore Andre Flo 1997, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink 2002)
- Derby (Gianfranco Zola 1997, Frank Lampard 2008)
- Stoke (Salomon Kalou 2010, Alvaro Morata 2017)
Greaves the hat-trick great
Jimmy Greaves scored 13 hat-tricks for Chelsea. Given that he was only with the Blues for four seasons in the First Division, that was a pretty remarkable return. But it wasn’t just the volume of hat-tricks that he produced.
Of the thirteen hat-tricks that Greaves scored for the Blues, six of those times he scored more than three goals. Here is just what the World Cup winner managed:

Honourable mentions
It’s a glorious thing being able to look back through the history of the club and revel in the big names that starred for them. The much-vaunted Bobby Tambling for example, scored eight hat-tricks for Chelsea in his career.
The brilliant Peter Osgood weighed in with five of them, while Kerry Dixon was a six-hat-trick man for the Blues during his career.
Crying out for another star
Given the void in prolific Chelsea goalscorers in recent years and the failed big-money signings, all the talk of hat-tricks comes with a tinge of sadness. There frankly hasn’t been a great number nine at Chelsea since Didier Drogba exited the stage.
It’s been something that has hampered the Blues in further pursuit of silverware. There is a gaping hat-trick void waiting to be filled at the Bridge.
