Conor Gallagher probably had one of his best games in a Chelsea shirt at the weekend and was pretty pinnacle in helping us get our first win for eight weeks and score three goals in one game!
Now I try and stay away from reactionary takes and recency bias on this site, as much as I can (think everyone can) be guilty of it at times, but I think it’s worth having a conversation now on the future of Gallagher.
It looks like Gallagher would love to stay and make it at Chelsea, but we know the situation where Chelsea need to sell players and Gallagher is a home-grown player so any fee gained for him would ALL be profit and be good to balance FFP. However, he is really out there right now fighting for his Chelsea future and trying to prove he is good enough to stay.
I like Gallagher, I think he is a decent player to have in and around the squad. We know exactly what he brings, and we know he will fight for the badge and put in 100% effort every single minute he is on the pitch.
We have been crying out for that type of mentality this season, he is one of very few we have like that. He also isn’t as technically bad as some make him out to be. He’s not often going to be the best player on the pitch, but he can certainly hold his own in possession.
I’d probably be looking to sell him this summer though due to the profit we can make. I’d also be fine if he stays, but only if he is content with a squad role. If he isn’t, then he will probably have to be sold. I think we need good squad depth and he could certainly do that role well. It also depends on what Mauricio Pochettino wants, of course.
I do like him though and appreciate what he does bring. If Mason Mount is sold this summer then it might certainly be worth trying to keep Conor around.
