Conor McGregor’s sexual assault accuser was allegedly offered $100,000 in hush money by the NBA, per the DailyMail.com.
While speaking to the news outlet, the victim’s lawyer, Ariel Mitchell, divulged that the league exhorted her client to stay quiet about the ordeal. So much so that they attempted to bribe her with $100,000. However, she claims that the NBA rescinded their offer once the alleged incident went viral.
“The NBA offered us $100,000 to keep this quiet,” Mitchell said. “They rescinded the offer when the news broke.”
The NBA, though, has swiftly denied these allegations. Mike Bass, the league’s chief communications officer, said that “this claim is categorically false.”
The NBA might not be the only liable entity
Mitchell also explains to the DailyMail.com that along with the NBA, the Heat organization and Miami Police Department are responsible for what happened to her client. With regard to the team, she asserts that some of the security guards that enabled McGregor’s behavior were members of the Heat’s staff.
“Some of the security guards who stood by when this happened were not McGregor’s,” Mitchell said. “They were hired by the Heat. They decided to cater to a celebrity instead of protecting a young woman in trouble.”
Next, Mitchell detailed how the Miami Police Department repeatedly mishandled her client’s case. Not only did they dismiss her case but they convinced her not to file a report, as well.
“First, she went to the police precinct where she lives and there they told her to go to another precinct where this happened,” Mitchell explained. “So, that’s one rejection of a sexual assault victim.
Then, at the rightful precinct, she walked in shortly after 4:30 pm and, half an hour later, she was walked out of the police station. He walked her out of the building in no time. The detective told her to hire an attorney before she files a police complaint. He told her, ‘If you file today, this will go viral.’ Of course, that convinced her to wait, and that’s not good for the investigation.
They know what they did; they turned her away. They turned away the victim of a sexual assault.”
McGregor denies the allegations
On June 9, shortly after Game 4 of the NBA Finals, it is alleged that McGregor forced a woman he had met at the courtside club into a bathroom. Then, he proceeded to sexually assault her while security precluded anyone from coming in.
The victim claims that the UFC star forced her to perform oral sex on him and tried to sodomize her without her consent.
McGregor has since denied these allegations.
