Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa has issued a warning against any attempts to siphon medicines from public hospitals to private pharmacies.
Barasa warned that stern disciplinary action will be taken against anyone who will be involved in such a scheme.
He charged the inspection and acceptance committee to be vigilant and monitor the use of drugs that have been restocked in some health facilities in the county.
“We must be accountable for the medicines that have been supplied,” he noted.
The governor said the county government will be restocking drugs in health facilities after every three months.
“I will be inspecting the medicines myself after every three months to deliver more drugs for our people to enable them get medication without any challenges,” he added.
Governor Barasa was speaking after inspecting the delivery of drugs and non- pharmaceuticals at Makunga Health Centre in Mumias East and Matungu Hospital in Matungu Sub County.
The County government has procured drugs and non-pharmaceuticals worth more than Sh. 130 million which were supplied to health facilities by the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).
