The onset of the summer transfer window has seen many rumours swirling around when it comes to the departure of a player. Cristian Romero has been at the centre of rumours as reports are emerging that Real Madrid is interested in the player and will attempt to lure him away from Spurs.
However, Romero has dismissed rumours of a potential move away from Spurs stating that he is happy at the club.
The 26-year-old has played a pivotal role in Ange Postecoglou’s team as he forms the backbone of their defence despite earning a reputation as a rash and bad-tempered defender.
Romero rose to prominence while playing for Atalanta BC on loan from Juventus during the 2020-21 season, and he joined Tottenham just one day after making his move to the current Europa League champions permanent.
The Argentine defender will soon hit a century of appearances for Ange Postecoglou’s team, and his 98 appearances so far have seen him bag 6 goals and grab 1 assist.
Tottenham spent £44.3m to make Romero’s move permanent in 2022 following his successful audition, and the centre-back is still under contract in North London for another three seasons.
Romero recently spoke to ESPN F90 and he sheds light on his ambitions with Spurs.
“I always strive to play at my best. I have a lot of respect for Tottenham. They’ve always given me a lot of support here, so I like playing here. I don’t think about other clubs or their possibilities,” Romero said.
“I know there’s a lot of talk about a possible move, but I’m calm. At my club I play differently to the national team, more forward. I still have years left in Europe and I want to see where I can go. Hopefully this year we can win a title at Tottenham.”
Romero’s performances with Argentina where they tasted intercontinental and international success by lifting the 2022 World Cup followed by winning two Copa America titles on either side of the World Cup caught the attention of Real Madrid who are looking to inquire about a deal for the defender. The Spanish giants are looking to acquire another defender in their quest to add more teeth to their defensive department.
Tottenham are crystal clear about their position on the matter and they consider him to be a vital part of the squad hence they wouldn’t entertain any offers coming for the defender. The Transfer situation revolving around Romero could change however it will be a tough battle for Madrid to wage here as Spurs are reluctant to part ways with the defender.
