The Chicago Cubs activated Brad Boxberger from the 60-day injured list Friday and optioned fellow right-hander Keegan Thompson to Triple-A Iowa.
Boxberger, 35, has not pitched for the Cubs since May 13 due to a right forearm strain. In 14 2/3 innings over 17 appearances before the injury, he was 0-1 with a 5.52 ERA. In 12 seasons with seven different teams, he is 31-38 with a 3.51 ERA and 84 saves in 501 relief appearances.
Thompson, 28, is 2-2 with a 4.71 ERA and one save in 19 relief appearances with the Cubs this season. He was a 10-game winner last season when he made 17 starts among his 29 appearances and had a 3.76 ERA.
