India’s Current account deficit narrows in March quarter: RBI
According to the Reserve Bank of India, CAD narrowed to USD 13.4 bn or 1.5 pc of GDP in March quarter against USD 22.2 bn or 2.6 pc of GDP in December. India witnessed a current account deficit of 1.2 per cent of GDP in FY22 against a surplus of 0.9 pc in FY21 on widening of trade deficit, said RBI.

5 cops, home guard stabbed inside police station in Delhi

No of ITC employees with over Rs 1 cr salary goes up to 220
The total number of ITC employees drawing a salary aggregating Rs 8.5 lakh per month or over a crore rupees per year was 220 against 153 in 2020-21, said the latest annual report of ITC. The gross remuneration drawn by ITC Chairman & Managing Director Sanjiv Puri in FY22 was up 5.35 per cent to Rs 12.59 crore, which includes a consolidated salary of Rs 2.64 crore, perquisites /other benefits of Rs 49.63 lakh and a performance bonus of Rs 7.52 crore.
Drone strike hits Russian refinery near Ukraine
A drone strike caused a fire at a refinery in southwestern Russia near the border with Ukraine on Wednesday, but no one was hurt and the blaze was contained quickly, officials said. The fire engulfed industrial equipment at the Novoshakhtinsk oil processing plant in the Rostov-on-Don region. The authorities said that dozens of firefighters extinguished the flames in a half-hour and no one was hurt.

COVID-19: Hospitalisation increases marginally in Delhi
According to the Delhi Corona app, out of 9491 designated COVID-19 beds, 263 (2.77 per cent) are occupied while 24 out of 1178 ICU beds with ventilators have patients.

Bharti Airtel International (Netherlands) BV, which manages Airtel’s Africa business, has issued a tender offer to buy back up to USD 300 million (about Rs 2,348 crore) of senior notes, the country’s second largest telecom company said on Wednesday. The company’s tender offer to purchase USD 300 million worth of its 5.35 per cent guaranteed senior notes of USD 1 billion due 2024 has commenced from June 21 and will expire on July 19, 2022, Bharti Airtel said in a regulatory filing.

Carlsberg on Wednesday announced the departure of Chief Financial Officer Heine Dalsgaard, who had a leading role in a major cost-cutting programme to stem its losses in Russia. Shares in the world’s third-biggest brewer fell 2.2% at 0945 GMT, underperforming Copenhagen’s benchmark index which fell 1.4%. “This is disappointing for Carlsberg, as CFO Dalsgaard has been instrumental in driving efficiencies in the past years,” Kepler analyst Richard Withagen said in a research note.
682 Covid cases surface in UP

Eastern Afghanistan earthquake kills at least 280 people
A powerful earthquake struck a rural, mountainous region of eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistani border early Wednesday, killing at least 280 people and injuring 600 others, authorities said. Officials warned the death toll would likely rise. Information remained scarce on the magnitude 6.1 temblor that damaged buildings in Khost and Paktika provinces. Fire broke out at Russia’s Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery
A fire broke out at a heat transfer unit in Russia’s Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery, located in the southern Rostov region, on Wednesday morning, the local emergency service reported.
