The first regular 2022 meeting of the Benjamin Prescott Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution was held recently at the Patterson Library in Westfield with 14 members present.
The opening ritual was led by Regent Bonnie Larkin. Since March 3 was the 91st anniversary of Congress adopting the National Anthem, the group sang the first verse of The Star-Spangled Banner.
The DAR National Defense Article was read by Myra Johnston about the history of the Medal of Honor and the history of National Vietnam Veteran’s Day to be celebrated on March 29.
The President General’s Message highlighted ‘Spring Brings New Life to DAR!’ and planning for Continental Congress from June 19th to July 3 in Washington, D.C.
Voters were selected to represent the Benjamin Prescott Chapter at Continental Congress.
Registrar Barbara Pietro reported that we have two applicants with paperwork completed to join our chapter.
The possibility of having a Victorian Tea was discussed. Several possible venues were discussed and will be explored. The group will dress in Victorian Dress.
Deborah Stauring from Polly Gillette Hull Chapter spoke about the progress being made for the placement of the Revolutionary War Patriot Monument.
Brenda Johnson presented a short program about two of her Revolutionary War Ancestors, Benjamin and Thomas Parker
It was agreed that having a program taking turns sharing the story of Revolutionary War Patriots would be interesting and educational for all. Megan Austin volunteered to share her ancestor at the ‘Patriot Minute’ for the next meeting.
Next meeting will be April 7 at the Patterson Library in Westfield at 1 p.m.
