Dean Holden has been sacked as Charlton Athletic manager with backroom staff Danny Senda and Glyn Shimell also leaving their positions.
The Addicks suffered a fourth straight League One reverse at the weekend as they lost 2-1 at Oxford United.
The result leaves Charlton 19th in the table and already seven points behind sixth-placed Port Vale, not seen as one of the contenders for promotion this season.
Stevenage and Lincoln, two other clubs who do not have the spending resources of the South London club, are also in the play-off positions.
Charlton confirmed the departures this evening.
Addicks chairman Jim Rodwell told their website: “I would like to thank Dean and his staff for their hard work and dedication and sincerely wish them all the best in their future careers.
“Dean’s work in steering the club clear of relegation last season should not be forgotten, nor his development of many younger players.”
Former Charlton centre-back Jason Pearce, who had been senior professional development phase lead coach, will take interim charge and be assisted by Anthony Hayes.
Holden had talked about turning Charlton’s fortunes around after their reversal yesterday.
He said: “How does it affect me? It just makes me more and more determined. I’ve had many more difficult times than this in my life, trust me. This is part of management. It’s about me as the leader keeping everybody up.
“Dealing with the issues we’ve got but keeping everybody positive. It always starts with the leader. We’ll be back in to work quickly and we’ll turn this around.”
It means yet another managerial change at Charlton, who went through four under the ownership of Thomas Sandgaard. Lee Bowyer was already in charge when the US-based Dane acquired the club but he opted to move to Birmingham City in 2021.
Nigel Adkins, Johnnie Jackson and Ben Garner all lasted less than six months in SE7.
Holden was appointed in December and was the choice of the new ownership group, who eventually completed their takeover of the club in July.
“Dean was someone we recommended should be appointed as manager back in December,” said Charlie Methven, speaking to our paper at the time on behalf of Global Football Partners. “Dean is somebody who I’ve known on a very friendly basis for quite a long time. But ultimately Dean’s professional relationships within the club will not lie with me – they will lie with people on the technical side.
“It doesn’t fall to me, or any of the owners, to make decisions about who happens to be head coach. It falls to people on the technical side of the club.
“It is a matter of professional discipline that I defer to the technical staff about any comments about who is the head coach or who will be the head coach.”
Former Millwall defender Senda was promoted to joint first-team assistant manager in May.
Shimell was appointed goalkeeping coach in June 2021.
