UFC Middleweight Champion Dricus Du Plessis will defend his title next year after his victory over Israel Adesanya.
Dubbed ‘Stillknocks,’ he is set for a title rematch against Sean Strickland on February 8 in Australia. Strickland lost the title to Du Plessis earlier this year by split decision after winning it against Adesanya in September 2023.
Dricus Du Plessis to fight Strickland next year in Feb
The 33-year-old American will have another opportunity to reclaim the title that he lost to Du Plessis in a split decision in Toronto back in January.
Since winning the UFC title, Dricus Du Plessis has been on the rise in the sport, boasting a professional record of 22 wins and 2 losses, which includes nine victories by TKO and 11 by submission.
One of Du Plessis’s most significant wins was against two-time champion Israel Adesanya in August. The 30-year-old made ‘The Last Stylebender’ submit in front of a packed crowd in Perth, Australia.
Although DDP is having a rematch with Strickland, the South African champion expressed his desire to face the undefeated contender Khamzat Chimaev.
“The conversations [have been] more about me fighting Strickland,” Dricus Du Plessis told ESPN as per Brett Okamoto.
“But there was a very big reason no contracts have been signed, and I’m saying this as an opinion. I agreed that I’ll fight Strickland, perfect — and that’s the fight the fans want. But if you go on what the fans want right now, it’s definitely not the Strickland fight,” he said in October.
