Dulwich Hamlet have sacked Hakan Hayrettin – with their 4-3 home loss against Bognor Regis Town proving the final straw.
The South London club, who easily boast the biggest attendances in the Isthmian League Premier Division, are six points above the bottom four but have played two fixtures more than four of the teams below them.
There had been a growing clamour on social media for Dulwich to dismiss Hayrettin, 54, after a miserable run which had seen them pick up four points from a possible 40.
Hayrettin was appointed in March 2023 but was unable to avert their relegation from National League South.
Predecessor Paul Barnes did not have long in the Champion Hill hotseat. He had replaced long-serving manager Gavin Rose after he had been relieved of his duties in
September 2022.
Rose won two promotions during his 13-year tenure.
“The club board has taken the decision to terminate the contract of manager Hakan Hayrettin and his management team with immediate effect,” said Dulwich in a statement on their website on Tuesday.
“A further statement will be issued in due course but we would like to thank Hak and his team for the service to the club and wish them success in the future.”
Hayrettin’s final match saw them squander a 3-1 lead against Bognor.
Hayrettin offer no protection to goalkeeper Dillon Barnes afterwards.
“We need to do better as a group,” said Hayrettin, inset. “The goalkeeper there has killed us. It is not good enough. We get 3-1 up against 10 men, we’re in full control, and the goalkeeper drops it – they get one. Then he kicks it straight to them and they get another one. It is people just not doing their job.”
