Eastern Cape police on Friday a arrested 28-year-old man in connection with the murder Matthys Van Niekerk, who was killed at a farm in Cradock last Wednesday.
According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli, police received “overwhelming” information from the community on the whereabouts of the man, which they then followed up on.

“He was traced and apprehended while hiding in the bushy area of a farm a few kilometres outside Hofmeyr,” said Nkohli.
Police said he would appear at the Cradock Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
News24 previously reported that Van Niekerk, 65, was found with stab wounds at a farm near route R390 outside Cradock.
“At the scene, the body of an elderly man was found with stab wounds in the upper body,” said Nkohli.
The victim’s vehicle was found abandoned on Conway Road in Hofmeyr.
“The circumstances surrounding the incident are forming part of the investigation,” said Nkohli.
Police have thanked the community and other sectors, especially the media, whose efforts led to the suspect’s arrest.
