Berlin/New Delhi (dpa) – Germany’s Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action Robert Habeck is targeting closer cooperation between Germany and India. On a three-day visit to India, Habeck said that India’s population of over 1.4 billion people now made it the most populous country in the world and therefore a strong growth market in the Indo-Pacific region. “This visit is therefore also taking place under the banner of promoting greater resilience and diversification,” he said. “Closer collaboration, particularly on renewables and green hydrogen, holds great potential for both sides and can improve our resilience and economic security.”
Habeck’s programme includes talks with government representatives in the capital New Delhi. On Saturday the minister will take part in the meeting of G20 energy ministers in Goa. India currently holds the G20 presidency.
Germany’s Labour Minister Hubertus Heil is also on a multi-day visit to India. Amongst other things he is trying to attract skilled professionals. He will also take part in the G20 summit of employment ministers in Indore in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
