Berlin (dpa) – Federal Economic Affairs Minister Robert Habeck sees huge potential from the expansion of hydrogen technology in Germany. In a speech during a Bundestag debate, Habeck said there was a need to accelerate market the development of the market. “If you look at what’s going on in the field of hydrogen right now, you must say that the pace is picking up,” Habeck said. “Investment is taking place everywhere.”
The Bundestag was debating an update to the National Hydrogen Strategy, which the Federal Government approved in late July. The government is looking to double its previous target of creating generating capacity in Germany of 5 gigawatts by 2030 to at least 10 gigawatts. Hydrogen is to play a central role in the transition to a climate-friendly transformation of the economy, such as in the steel industry Hydrogen is also to be used as an energy source and energy storage medium.
