THE Minister of Education and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Mr Haruna Iddrisu, has been discharged from the 37 Military Hospital, where he was receiving medical treatment after his involvement in a car accident on Wednesday.
The incident is said to have occurred on the Navrongo-Tumu road while Mr Iddrisu and the Deputy Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Mr Adam Sukparu, and their convoy were travelling to the Upper West Region to attend the 40th anniversary celebrations of Tumu and Jahan Colleges of Education College of Education at Tumu and Wa, respectively.
The Ministry of Education (MoE) confirmed the discharge of the sector Minister in a statement it issued on Saturday and copied The Ghanaian Times.
“The Office of the Honourable Minister for Education announces that Hon. Haruna Iddrisu has been discharged from the 37 Military Hospital following a road traffic accident,” the statement said.
“He is in good spirits and has been advised to rest as part of his recovery,” the statement added.
It also expressed appreciation to the medical team that attended to Mr Iddrisu while he was on admission and the public for their prayers and support.
Meanwhile, Parliament, through a statement issued in Accra and copied The Ghanaian Times, has also extended its well wishes to Mr Iddrisu and Mr Sukparu following their involvement in the car accident.
According to the statement, Parliament acknowledged the shock with which the families of both Ministers, their constituents, and the public received the news.
However, it indicated that both Ministers were in stable condition and were responding to treatment after they were airlifted to the 37 Military Hospital.
“Parliament commemorates with the two Honourable Ministers and expresses its sincere sympathy following this distress incident. The House acknowledges the shock the news may have caused to the families, constituents, and the general public,” the statement said.
“Parliament wishes to assure the public that both Ministers have been airlifted to Accra and are currently receiving medical treatment at the 37 Military Hospital. They are in stable condition and responding to treatment,” the statement added.
It further noted that the Speaker of Parliament, Mr Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, together with the leadership of both sides of the House and other legislators, had visited the two Ministers at the 37 Military Hospital to wish them a speedy recovery.
“Parliament extends its heartfelt wishes for their swift and full recovery and assures the public that there is no cause for alarm as they continue to receive the necessary medical care,” the statement said.
