EL&N London opens up in Johannesburg

The latest international eatery to open up in South Africa, EL&N Cafe (pronounced e-lan) is a popular café chain that originated in London, United Kingdom and has since expanded to other locations around the globe. EL&N stands for Eat, Live & Nourish. The cafe is touted as the “most Instagrammable cafe in the world” and has gained significant attention world-wide due to its photogenic interiors, which incorporate pink decor, beautiful floral arrangements, heart-shaped wall designs, and neon signs, making it a hotspot for social media enthusiasts and influencers.

The Johannesburg store is the first store in Africa, and I was invited to the media launch earlier this week along with other Joburg bloggers and influencers. The gorgeous café lived up to its reputation and of course, everyone was consistently taking photos and reels. The food is halaal and the menu includes all-day brunch, burgers, pastas and grills. Vegetarians are catered for too. Drinks are a treat too, with specialty lattes, frappes and mocktails. The store also sells branded merchandise.

We had delicious strawberry and coconut milkshakes topped with whipped cream, and colourful ombre passion fruit coolers, along with perfectly-baked wood-fired pizzas and avocado toasts. We also enjoyed decadent Nutella and berry French toasts, and some amazing cakes, of which we were given generous portions to take home.

Insta-hotspot and coffee house chain EL&N London opens South Africa’s first location in Johannesburg.

Pretty interiors

After much popular demand, London’s most Instagram-worthy café opened its doors at Mall of Africa, Johannesburg on 24th August 2023. The famous café and lifestyle chain from the UK is internationally known for its innovative menu offering, unique interiors and specialty coffee.  With 32 stores already dotted around the globe in locations such as London, Milan, Paris and Dubai, among others, the first branch has finally opened its doors in South Africa at the Mall of Africa in Midrand.

The design of the store features a bespoke tree of light chandelier with over 500 LED bulbs, painting a glow over the pretty pink and green interiors. Paired with a brand new Instagrammable moment dressed in pink blossom florals and the brand’s iconic neon slogans across the walls. The development team at EL&N have brought a touch of localisation to the Mall of Africa menu with brand new steaks and grills, as well as its first-ever pizza bar, offering 11 rustic wood-fired pizzas made fresh every day from the pizza oven.

Favourite brunch classics are also available on the menu, with a range of speciality coffee, all-day brunch dishes and their delectable patisserie including the iconic Spanish Latte and Dulce de Leche cake.

EL&N (short for Eat, Live & Nourish) are known around the globe for providing a maximally photogenic backdrop that is Instagrammable, yet stylish.
