The Escape From Tarkov developers are finally making concessions after a week of fan pushback. However, they’re still keeping the $250 “Unheard” edition of the game for sale.
Escape From Tarkov Developers Deserve Money
It’s indisputable that the game’s developers require money to maintain the servers and the game’s upkeep. However, it’s arguable that the current state of the game, as well as other promises, aren’t being kept up to snuff.
Late last week, fans pushed back against the developers’ choice to sell a new edition of the game “worth” $250. Arguably, many of the edition’s offerings were earnable in-game. What raised the eyebrows of many fans was the exclusion of the PvE version for the Edge of Darkness (EoD) edition of the game.
Nikita Buyanov, Battle State Games’ lead developer of Escape From Tarkov, finally allows EoD purchasers to opt into the PvE game for free. However, some will have to wait since this will be in waves, as they’ll allow gamers to play by waves. This is to lessen stress on the server. It also allows the developers to test if the game servers can handle the overwhelming amount.
Moreover, he admits that he didn’t predict fans would get so riled up by keeping the PvE version behind a paywall.
“Unfortunately, I somehow did not foresee the fact of such a reaction and now I have drawn conclusions for my future decisions.”
Nikita Buyanov
It’s A Start, But It’s Not The Best Response
Admittedly, it’s good the developers are admitting their mistakes. Furthermore, they’re making concessions to meet in the middle with EoD purchasers. They’ll be able to play the PvE version, but there are still other issues to tackle.
Specifically, the $250 edition of the game will have features that aren’t usually part of the gameplay loop. Adding items that will make Scavs (NPC characters) less aggressive essentially changes a significant part of the game. Tarkov’s brutality comes from its aggressive players and Scavs. Remove the latter part, and suddenly, the game isn’t as punishing, which is what the players know EFT for.
There’s still the unmentioned removal of specific benefits from the EoD edition on their store page. One of these benefits would be a unique identifier in-game to boast about spending $150 on EoD. The developers removed it since it’s also part of the Unheard Edition.
